I first got interested in wood watching my big brother making guitars on the kitchen table and ferret cages in the back yard. I made my 1st guitar at school before leaving to become an apprentice cabinet maker. After a spell in India I returned to start my own business as a designer and maker of contemporary furniture establishing Burrowlee house partnership in Sheffield. This became a creative centre of craftsmanship serving a cliental that included the Duchess of Devonshire. 20 Years later I sold up and retreated to Wales investing in the start of a very exciting environmental and educational centre on the Llyn Peninsula North Wales, Feli Uchaf. Through this I was introduced to green oak timber framing and a new passion began. I returned to Sheffield with a desire to follow my heart. Sharing my vision with one of my contemporaries we both found a mutual passion and interest and so Hector & Cedric began. Hector named after my beautiful and wise old cat.

I'm Richard and have worked for Hector & Cedric since it began its operations from Ecclesall Wood Sawmill Sheffield. Previously I have worked in furniture restoration and latterly fine furniture production, with the past seven years spent working alongside Bryan. It is a joy for me to work with locally sourced timber and a fantastically rewarding opportunity to create spaces for groups and individuals who can feel a bit closer to, and gain inspiration from, natural materials. For me, with every project being unique and surrounded by Ecclesall woodland, it is the perfect location to work from.

I am Jack Frisby. I am 23 years old and the apprentice with Hector & Cedric. It is good to be part of a team, doing a Job where I can combine my interests in the environment and working with wood, knowing I will learn valuable skills constructing low impact buildings with local timber.
